
San Marino is very proud of their heritage and culture. There are many festivals throughout the year that reassure the republic of their importance. This is the procession of Saint Marino, the blood and body. Also on this day is when children have their communion. The events starts in the Palace then journeys to the church, where there is a long mass. The procession leaves the church with the military leading the way and the band. The children then follow while tossing flower petals in the all over the streets. Then the priest follow, singing. Then the head priest carries the symbol of Saint Marino. The procession ends where it began in front of the palace. It was somewhat unreal. There is this elaborate procession in this ancient city with mountains and valleys in the background.
